At this time, due to lack of resources and an overwhelming number of requests, we are unable to accept any found animals or owner surrenders into our foster program. We understand that circumstances may require the surrender of your beloved pet. While we are here to help save the lives of companion animals in need, unfortunately there are circumstances that may prohibit us from being able to take an animal into our care.

​Additionally, please understand that:

  1. We are an all volunteer, foster-based rescue. All of our adoptable pets are located in the homes of private residents and we do not have a physical location where we can house animals in need.  Before we can take an animal into the rescue, we must first assess our current foster home availability. Our Surrender Request contains the necessary information we will need in order to determine if we can assist in placing your pet in our foster program.
  2. As The Rescue Crew was established primarily to assist our local, most urgent, animals in need facing imminent risk of euthanasia in Minnesota's shelters and impounds, we focus most of our resources and foster-base to help in that endeavor.

For these reasons, we can never guarantee placement of an animal. To ensure the best possible outcome for your animal we recommend reaching out to multiple rescue organizations and city impound facilities for help with placing your pet.  Also, please refer to our resources sections titled Resources to Rehome Your Pet on Your Own.
Requirements of Owner Surrenders and Adoption Returns.

If you are considering surrendering your pet please review this information.

All pets 3-months and older must be up-to-date on core vaccinations and pets 6+ months of age must also be altered and have a heartworm test (dogs) or a FIV/FeLK test (cats) before we can consider accepting them into rescue. We will require proof of vaccinations and all pertinent medical records of the pet. 

As all of our foster homes have other resident pets, and many have small children, we are unable to accept animals with any of the following:
  • Animal aggression/behavior issues. This incudes any dog or cat that must be the only pet in the home due to these issues.
  • Indications of any possible human aggression towards either adults or children.
  • Any pet with a bite history.
  • Any dog that has been declared "Dangerous" or "Potentially Dangerous" by a municipality or county.
  • Pets with severe separation anxiety.
  • Cats that do not use the litterbox appropriately.
  • Cats that are unsocial or demonstrate a semi-feral/feral behavior and require long-term rehabilitation or placement with limited human interaction.

Please, for the safety of the animal and our foster caregivers, it is imperative that you be completely transparent and fully disclosure all pertinent information prior to our ability to consider accepting your dog or cat into rescue.
We are Unable to Help with the Following:

  • We are unable to provide temporary or short-term housing of pets.
  • We do not have the resources or ability to assist with Trap/Neuter Return (TNR) needs.
  • We cannot accept terminally or chronically ill animals or offer financial assistance to provide for them.
  • We aren't able to accept stray animals into the rescue.
    • Found pets must undergo a mandatory legal stray hold. This is typically 5-7 days, but is dependent upon the jurisidiction in which the animal was found. Some cities/counties allow the finder to hold onto the pet while searching for an owner, while others require the pet to be brought to a shelter. 
    • Finders of stray pets must demonstrate that made reasonable efforts to find the animal's owner. Examples of such efforts include posting in online public forums, scanning for a microchip, and making local authorities and vet clinics aware of the found pet. 
    • Once the necessary due diligence to find the pets owner has been taken and the legally mandated stray hold has passed, you can be considered the pet's owner and complete a Surrender Request.

The Surrender Process.


​Please complete the Surrender Request Form below. Any medical/veterinarian records can be attached to this Request Form. If you are needing to find a home for a lost or stray pet, please view our Lost and Found Pet Resources section. 
If you're unable to upload your pets medical/veterinarian records with the Request Form, you may email your pet's official veterinary records and current photo(s) to us at Int[email protected]. In your email, please specify that you have already completed the Surrender Request Form. This is good opportunity to include any additional information that may help us in placing your pet. 
A member of our team will reach out to you to discuss the possibility of The Rescue Crew being able to assist in rehoming your pet, the process and timeline.  It is likely that we will request to conduct a behavioriral assessment of the animal before we can commit to taking the animal into rescue.

While surrendering your pet can be an emotional process, once your animal is officially part of The Rescue Crew, we will not be able to provide updates or contact information for the foster or adoptive homes. We understand the concern for the animal, but need to respect and protect the identities of our foster and adoptive families. We promise that we will do everything within our power to find a trusted and loving home for the animal.
