Volunteering with The Rescue Crew.

Volunteers come from all walks of life, generously giving their time to apply their passion and skill to help save the lives of animals in need. When you volunteer with The Rescue Crew, you’re giving the animals one of the greatest gifts of all — your time. Whether you’re spending one-on-one time with the animals, helping out at events or assisting in some other way, you’re helping the animals to feel loved. For that, everyone here at The Rescue Crew will be incredibly grateful— especially the animals.

​Volunteer Opportunties.

​The Rescue Crew can use your talents and experience in anything from administrative work, providing animal care and enrichment, vetting assistance, help with transporting animals or supplies, marketing, taking photographs and writing biographies for our animals to help find their forever families… and the list goes on. The list below outlines the volunteer positions we are ALWAYS in need of to support our growing organizaiton and lifesaving mission. 
Adoptions Crew
The Adoptions Crew is responsible for processing adoption applications, which involves conducting veterinary checks, landlord pet policy and background checks, communicating with Crew Member Coordinators and Foster Caregivers and finalizing adoptions.

While a passion for animal welfare is always important in this field, it is critical for volunteers in this area to enjoy working with people, have strong communications skills and be detail oriented. You will be communicating with applicants via text, telephone and email and strong customer services skills that demonstrate The Rescue Crew values is of utmost importantance. 

Examples of volunteer roles within the Adoptions Crew include:

Animal Care Crew
The Animal Care Crew is responsible for overseeing the medical care of all animals within the rescue. You will ensure all standard vetting care is provided to our rescue pets prior to adoption and support our foster caregivers with the medical needs and concerns they may have regarding their foster pet(s).

It is the responsibility of the Animal Care Crew to ensure all animals are given the care they need and deserve. A background in veterinary/shelter medicine is helpful or minimally an understanding of basic medical needs of dogs and cats is necessary or the ability and desire to learn quickly.

Animal Intake Crew
The Animal Intake Crew has one of the most important roles within the rescue. This Crew is responsible for bringing animals into the rescue. This is done by establishing and maintaing positive relationships with local shelters and impounds, being the face of the rescue to individuals seeking to surrender a pet, or those who have found a stray, and working with and supporting a select group of out-of-state rescue/shelter organizations where The Rescue Crew can make the biggest impact.

The roles within this Crew can also be one of the most emotionally draining within the rescue. You will see the overwhelming volume of animals in need and be tasked with determining which of those pets we are able to assist. While these can be stressful volunteer roles, they are also one of the most rewarding, and also the most "hands on" with the dogs and cats as you will be visiting shelters and meeting and assessing dogs and cats in need. 

Volunteer Positions on the Animal Intake Crew:
  • Intake Manager (currrently filled)
  • Intake Coordinator - in-state
  • Intake Coordidinator - tribal lands/reservations  (currently filled)
  • Intake Coordinator - owner surrenders & adoption returns
  • Intake Admin
  • Bully Breed Team Lead - must have extensive knowledge and experience with pit bull-type dogs
  • Bully Breed Representative - must have knowledge of, and a comfort level working with, pit bull-type dogs​
Marketing & Communications Crew
The Marketing & Communications Crew is responsible for communicating respectfully and respnsively with the rescue's many audiences. Areas within this Crew include social media communications, content development, email marketing

REGISTER FOR AN UPCOMING INFORMATION SESSION.
To provide additional support and information, we host bi-weekly Foster & Volunteer Information Sessions.  These sessions will provide more in depth information about fostering, volunteer opportunities, the types of support we provide to our fosters, introduce you to your support team and allows you to get any and all questions about The Rescue Crew and fostering with us answered. 

​Information Sessions are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm - 7:30pm, and the 3rd Sunday of each month from 10:30am - 11:30am.

​Please be sure to registered at least 24 hours in advance.

Preparing to Attend an Information Session.

Each presentation and Q&A is hosted on Zoom. This allows you to interact with our presenter. Imagine it being like you are in the room in person but digitally.

To ensure the most positive experience, we recommend:
  1. Turn on your webcam so we can see you too. If you prefer not to, that's ok as well.
  2. Zoom is a free app we will be using during the session to interact and learn. Ensure you have downloaded the zoom app onto your computer or phone for the best user experience.
  3. Alternatively, you can simply use one of the call-in numbers provided on your registration invite.
The Rescue Crew will strive to set ourselves apart from other organizations by maintaining both proactive and reactive support and communication with our team members, fosters, volunteers and prospective and past adopters (maintaining an “Adopters Welcome” way of thinking and conducting business). 
 
  • Adopters Welcome philosophy: This way of thinking is an approach to adoptions that embraces community members, encourages them to adopt, and helps them and their pets succeed. The approach also acknowledges the connection among all local animal welfare organizations and the impact adoptions, or lack thereof, can have on all of the animals in the communities in which we serve. In general, this means establishing and nurturing new relationships, maintain ongoing dialogue and building upon existing relationships, and conducting post-adoption conversations to follow-up with adopters in an effort to provide ongoing support and do our best to ensure appropriate and proper placement of our animals we place and reduce potential risks of returns by providing proactive support and tips to assist individuals when bringing a new animal into the home. 
 
Communications and the nurturing of relationships will be handled through a variety of mediums, such as texts, private/instant messaging, Facebook friending and posting, emails and telephone conversations (but the preferred and most often beneficial communication is through personal contact—either in person or through telephone conversations).
