Adoption Process
how to adopt
Find a Pet. Search our Adoptable Pets and identify which pet(s) you may be interested in. |
Submit an Adoption Request Form.
Once you've found a possible new furry family member you're intereted in, complete an Adoption Request Form. You can identify up to three pets you'd like to consider. Don't worry, you'll get a chance to have all of your questions answered and meet the pet(s) before making a decision. If you change your mind or find another adoptable pet, you can make changes on your request after its been submitted. |
Your Adoption Request is Processed.
A volunteer will process your Request Form, which typically entails conducting a basic public background check, vet check to confirm any resident pets are up-to-date and altered and, if you rent, confirming your landlord's pet policy. We make every effort to be as expeditious as possible as we understand how excited you must be about the possibility of bringing home a new friend. On average, this will take us five days but is dependent upon weekends, holidays and personal obligations our volunteer(s) may have. We promise that we'll work as fast as we can. |
Foster Review and "Meet & Greet."
Once your Request Form is processed, it is sent along to the pet(s) foster caregiver for review and, if the pet is still in need and your home appears to be a good fit, they will reach out to you to chat about the pet and schedule a mutually convenient time for you to be able to meet and interact with the animal. |
Patience is a Virtue. It's not uncommon, especially for highly desirable breeds as well as puppies and kittens, that we may have multiple applications submitted within a short period of time. We do our best to denote on our website if "multiple applications" have been received or if we're "no longer accepting applications." You'll see these designations next to the pet's name on our website. Please keep in mind that the foster may be meeting with multiple applicants. We ask fosters to make every effort to reach out to potential adopters within 48 hours, but it could take as long as 5-7 days. |
Adoption Paperwork/Fee Completed and Paid. If the foster and adoptive family decide to move forward with the adoption, a volunteer Adoption Coordinator will send the Adoption Agreement & Contract, along with an invoice for the adoption fee. These items will be sent electronically via email and/or text, and the Agreement and payment can both be completed online. Please Note: We do not accept checks as payment. |
Congratulations!
You will receive confirmation once the adoption process is complete and then the foster family caring for your new pet will reach out to coordinate a mutually convenient pickup/drop-off time. Your new pets' veterinary records and vaccinations will be available to you through a secure online portal that we will provide you log-in information to access. Alternatively, we can also email the records to you post adoption. |
Welcome Home. Acclimating to a new environment doesn't happen overnight. A change in environment is very stressful to cats and dogs and they need time to settle in and feel safe and secure. To set your new pet up for success, as well as your family and resident pets, please reference the Resources section on this website. Your new pet will appreciate the time and effort you're making to help ensure their transition is a positive one. |
