This will be our second year participating in the "Rescue Me!" adoption event at The Blaine Festival. The festival is an annual community celebration with weekend-long events for the whole family. Join us Sunday, June 30 at Aquatore Park (corner of Hwys 65 and 10). Last year was a lot of fun for attendees and we also were successful at adopting our dogs and cats from the event as well as acquire a good amount of donations. Please plan on attending if you can.
Who can attend?
Everyone is welcome. This is a family friendly event. But, as far as your foster pets are concerned, here are some general guidelines:
Both dogs and cats are welcome. However, it's a busy event with a lot of activity and people. Kittens were hugely popular with the crowd last year, but if you bring a cat they should be confident and outgoing and not easily frightened or skittish. They should also be securely contained in a kennel - preferably a wire kennel making them more visible to potential adopters.
While not required that animals be altered, it is preferred. Please reach out to your Crew Member Coordinator and/or Vetting Coordinator if you have any concerns or questions about bringing your foster pet.
All pets 16+ weeks must have a rabies vaccination to attend.
Any puppy or kitten must be at least 8 weeks old and have at least two distemper boosters to attend.
All dogs should be securely leashed with a martingale collar and/or a harness. A good practice is to always double leash your foster dog to reduce any possibility of "flight risk."
FAQs
Where will we be located? See the map below. We will be under a large tent just off of Central Avenue and across from the petting zoo. We may be sharing the space with another rescue and/or pet vendor, but there is ample room.
Will there by seating? There will likely be a picnic table or two in the vicinity. If you're more comfortable sitting consider bringing a camping chair or other lightweight foldable chair. You're also welcome to bring a blanket to hangout on the grass with your foster pup.
What do I need to provide? Beyond bringing the recommended camping chair or blanket, just bring yourself and your foster pet (if you have one). If you don't have a foster pet, or if they're in the process of being adopted or maybe just won't do well in this type of environment, please still consider coming to meet and get to know other fosters and volunteers. We can also use extra hands as leash holders for dogs and to answer questions. You do not need to bring water or water bowls - they will be provided. You may wish to consider bringing treats or anything else needed to properly care for your foster pet during attendance.
Is there a cost? No.
Where should I park? Feel free to park anywhere you can find a spot. It has been suggested that to us that foster should make every effort to park at Village Bank, which is at the corner of Clover Leaf Parkway NE and Central Ave NE. If you park here, it should be a straight walk down Central Avenue to find the Rescue Me! tent.
Village Bank 9298 Central Ave NE Blaine, MN 55434
Do I have to attend the entire time? No. Feel free to join us anytime you can between 10am - 2:00pm
